1) Precinct Conventions were held in every precinct in Texas on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 7:15 after the polls closed. Each precinct was entitled to a predetermined number of delegates to the Senatorial Convention based on the number of votes received by the Democratic gubernatorial nominee in the 2006 General Election. In total, District 23 was entitled to 4,480 precinct delegates and the same number of alternates.
2) By state law, all Senatorial/County Conventions will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2008 in their respective districts. The order of business for the Senate 23 Convention will include electing delegates to the state convention, adopting resolutions, rules and proposed changes to the Party platform. Again, precincts will elect a predetermined number of delegates based on their voter turnout in 2006. In total, District 23 will elect 373 delegates and alternates to the State Convention.
3) The Texas Democratic State Convention will be June 6-7, 2008, in Austin. This is the final step in officially awarding Texas' delegates to the National Democratic Convention. The delegates will be awarded proportionally based on the popular vote from the March 4 Primary and from all the Senate District/County Conventions across the state. In total, District 23 will elect 6 delegates and 1 alternate to the Democratic National Convention which will be held August 25-28, 2008, in Denver.
It is important to note that delegates and alternates are responsible for their own housing, transportation and meals at each convention.
